Standard EN SamplePersonnel Dosimetry Performance - Criteria for Testing
Also Known As: ANSI/HPS N13.11-2009 (R2015)
The HPS N13.11-2009 (R2015) standard provides criteria for testing the performance of personnel dosimetry systems. It applies to systems used for determining personal dose equivalent for occupational conditions and absorbed dose for accident conditions. The standard includes tests conducted under controlled conditions using various types of radiation, such as photons, beta particles, neutrons, and mixtures of these radiations.
The standard takes into consideration radiation protection recommendations from organizations like the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP), the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements (ICRU), and the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP). Organizations that provide or use dosimetry services should be tested in categories that best represent the services they provide.
The standard also incorporates angular testing, which involves exposing dosimeters to photon fields at different angles. This allows for continuous evaluation of dosimeter construction and helps improve the estimation of absorbed dose or personal dose equivalent under field conditions.
However, the standard does not cover certain dosimetry uses and radiological conditions, including thermal neutrons, high-energy neutrons with an energy of 3 MeV, and extremity dosimeters (which are covered in a separate standard, ANSI/HPS N13.32-2008).
