The ISEA 107-2015 standard addresses the critical issue of worker visibility to ensure their safety. The standard acknowledges that low visibility is a hazard for workers who work near moving vehicles or equipment. It emphasizes the importance of workers being visible to vehicle operators in all lighting conditions and against complex backgrounds.

This standard combines the requirements of two previous standards, ANSI/ISEA 107-2010 and ANSI/ISEA 207, to establish a comprehensive document that considers all occupational tasks. It categorizes garments based on performance classes and expected use settings. The three performance classes are determined by the amount of visible materials and design attributes incorporated into the final configuration. The garment types are categorized as off-road (type O), roadway and temporary traffic control (type R), or public safety activities (type P).

Fit and comfort are also addressed in the standard as they play a crucial role in ensuring worker acceptance and compliance. The standard specifically addresses the concern regarding appropriately fitting garments for smaller sized workers. Provisions are now included to allow reduced background material for garments in the smallest size offered, while still meeting the standard's requirements.

The standard also recognizes the increasing use of high-visibility accessory items and sets minimum material requirements for these accessories. New labeling requirements are introduced to identify the garment by performance class, type, and flame resistance characteristics. The standard also provides examples of compliant and non-compliant garment configurations.

In terms of performance requirements, the standard specifies color, retroreflection, and minimum areas of retroreflective and combined-performance materials. It also provides requirements for the color, physical properties, and minimum areas of background materials used. Test methods are included to ensure ongoing visibility after garment care procedures. It is important to note that this standard does not apply to firefighter turnout gear.
